Connector Pin Missing for Altermator ?

Connector Pin Missing for Altermator ?
Hejdo,
The terminal on my alt has 4 pins in it, but the connector on the end of the wire loom that snaps into it only has 3 pins. There is a hole for the 4th pin, but it is empty. 4 holes, 3 pins . Is this the way they are supposed to be ?
Been having 'system overvoltage' codes lately. Would be great if all I had to do was get another connector.

88 GTA Charcoal Grey Bone Stock except for loose muffler which makes it a bit louder
than normal.
