Rear Mounted Battery! I used search!
I used search but found nothing specific enough.
I want to use a yellow top optima (going to run an subwoofer later) I want to mount it on the passenger side, and want it to be totally legal.
From my reading I understand I have to have it sealed and vented, I do not want to cut my carpet if I don't have to, and I'm not to keen on cutting holes in my car. What would be the easiest and cleanest look? Jegs has a lot of rear mounted batteries but they look like junk!
Thank you all in advance for the help, you guys always point me in the right direction!

Yellow tops are a deep cycle battery. Because you want to use it with a stereo, it will probably do the job but normally a red top is used for cars.
Even with a sealed battery such as the Optima, it must be in a sealed and vented box when inside the driver's compartment. Because a third gen is a hatchback, anywhere inside the car is "inside the driver's compartment".
I'm assuming when you say you want it legal, you intend to take the car to the race track. There are only a couple of options. A marine type box will not pass a tech inspection in this type of situation. The most popular is the Moroso battery box. I use the Taylor one myself. http://www.f5performance.com/index.htm?c310.htm&1
Putting the battery inside a proper box isn't enough to pass tech. Whenever a battery is relocated there must also be a master kill switch mounted at the rear. Do a search for the requirements for the switch. I've explained it enough times.
