Car runs bad, the fixes itself?? so confused

late last year i bought the car and it ran fine, the radio has a short in it somewhere so i was trying to fix it and while in the process of trying to fix it, all my gauge lights and tail lights went out. Then on top of that the car started running very badly, shaking horribly in park and could barely drive down the road. I checked my fuses 3 times and never saw a blown fuse till the 3rd time.( I was at a loss of what to think so i figured i would go through them again.) So i changed the fuse and went to move the car, and it ran fine. It didn't seem like it was totally running the way it used to but i was just happy it was drivable. I never heard of a fuse making a car run bad but w/e... Then about a week later it started acting up again. So i had to park it, I really didn't know what to do w/ the engine part of it so i was waiting for a time to take it to a shop, so tonight i tried to fix the short in the radio and tried to tear the dash apart(which i still haven't accomplished, gonna finish it this weekend) so i went to move the car back on the side of the road and when i started it, it ran absolutely perfect. This time it ran like it used to so long long ago.. So does anyone have any ideas on what could cause this to happen. Oh yeah, after the first time it started acting up, i did a tune up. I got new cap, wires, rotor, and fuel filter. Everythings gapped properly and wires are in the right order. All the injectors are working and fuel pump has pressure. No codes have come up either If anyone can give me an idea of what the radio or any wires close to the radio would have to do w/ it running bad/good, i would appreciate it so much.
thanks,

brady

Broken wire some place in that harness.

Don't know anything about the stock radio. Got rid of mine years ago and ran my own wires to the deck.

lol, yeah i know i'm not the smartest kid when it comes to engines, but i'm not elliterate. I can read perfectly fine. but yeah...that did say something about some wires broke in the harness. So the radio wire and another wire are probably right next to each other then? Or is it one wire that would be shorting out?

thanks, oh and 1 reply per person is just fine lol

could have been a ground that you put back in place when you were fiddling around down there. Or when you took a ground off, it made a ground-loop better off.

Either way, I wouldnt be complaining if it works like it's supposed to now hehe

If there's just one thing I hate when troubleshooting, it's that accursed intermittant failure... One day it's there, the next, no problems at all. It makes you lose faith and trust in your hardware, until you actually find out what the heck it was.

yeah, def. been frustrated lately. Just one quick question... I need to get into right where the passenger would sit. The wires run from the radio to the ecm so i need to get the panel off that has the z28 emblem on it. Do i have to take the entire dash apart, like the dash pad and the faceplates for the guages? I really hope i don't, but for somereason it seems like that.

thanks again for everything

There's an under-dash panel that you can take out. You'll end up saving a lot of time, frusteration, and cuts if you just take the whole dash out my friend. Gotta do it right to get optimal results

I've been working at this for hours and have taken every nut and bolt out that i can possibly see. The guage clusters out and the headlight/dimmerswitch, along w/ the rear defroster panel like the dimmer switch. It still wont come. It feels like it's still attached to somethng The console where the shifter is, is holding it back, but i tried to remove that and for some reason it wouldn't come. like it was attached to the carpet or something....I'm lost and running out of patience. I was suppose to drive it down to my dads tomorrow morning and leave it there, but doesn't look like it unless someone can give me a quick idea or suggestion. Anything would be appreciated.
