I've got big problems, I have a 1980 Pontiac Trans Am. It has a 301 pontiac motor and I wanted to swap it out for a chevy 350........I was just told that this can not be done because the motor mounts won't match up. Now I know from 1977 to 1981 the Trans Am's came with Chevy, Olds, and Pontiac engines. Does anyone know if I can swap my Pontiac motor for a Chevy without doing a major conversion???? I know this is a Third Gen message board but if anyone knows anything about this I would be greatful for any input.

The Firebirds and Camaros all are the same platform. At wirst you'd need a Chevy transmission, the Chevy motor mounts, and some misc stuff like move the battery to the pass side.

Easiest way to do it would be to come up with a tottaly trashed Camaro from about the same year as your car, and strip all that sort of stuff off of it.

I believe you will have to change the motor mounts. There should be holes on the frame where you can bolt up the different motor mounts. I am not sure about the tranny though, I think it will be ok though. Good luck man.
