Forged or Hypereutectic pistons?

I am trying to decide between getting TRW Forged Flat top pistons, or Keith Black Hypereutectic Flat top pistons? Any opinions?

If u can afford it go with the forged there much stronger. Cheaper to buy forged now than to burn a set of hypers and replace them with forged pistions later.

My vote is for the forged pistons,, just on the remote chance nitrous may be used in the future. If it's a 350,, SDPC has the heavy (610 grams) 4 valve relief TRW 2256's for $182 a set or the lightweight (495 grams) 2 valve relief TRW 2490's for $258 a set. The 2490's are hard to beat at that price and my person 355 flat top favorite,, for the money.

first of all, how much are you willing to spend? if ur motor is gonna be of the serious type, i'd bite the bullet and get a nice set of pistons.. like JE forged.. i think the recent chevy high performance mag, or maby it was another one, has a bunch of different pistons and connecting rods listed, the weight, price and metal they are made of.. all depends what the motor is intended for and how much money you want to put into it.

i think it should depend on what you plan on doing with it. Just about all Hypereutectic pistons can take 500hp. If you plan on using NOS or something I would tend to go forged. The main drawback to Hypereutectics is the top ring gap. They hold so much heat the top gap has to be increased by about .50 percent over standard.

Hypers can put up with a whole lot for little $$$. New diesels use hypers because of low heat expansion which means they can run tighter tolerance(less noise and blow by for cold start) plus they can put up with high cylinder pressure. Casting and alloying technology are getting better all the time. I'd say go with a good set of Hypers. You'll never find a problem with them on a street engine and you'll save your money for other goodies.
