VORTEC heads.

Ok I have a few questions about vortec heads in relation to a 305. First, I have a LG4 305, is there an intake manifold that will fit against my stock heads as well as vortec heads (i want to get intake manifold first, then heads later). Second, can i even use vortec heads with my 305? i saw it mentioned in a buildup i think, of a 305 with them using vortec heads...i can get these heads real cheap 300, or less (employee discount)but i want to know before i buy them, although i guess if i cant use them i still will be able to make a few bucks off them. anyway thanks in advance.

What year is your 305? If if is '87 and later then any manifold that will work with stock heads will work with vortec heads. Unfortunately, in '87 Chevy changed the bolt pattern on the intake manifolds, so all of the Edelbrock stuff won't work unless it's specifically for '87 and later. If you don't mind drilling holes in your brand new manifold, you can modify it to fit. The Vortecs also have raised intake ports, so not all manifolds will fit right. There is a lot of literature on this if you will search the boards.

How about not posting when you don't know what you're talking about ATOMonkey?

Vortec heads do not use the 87+ bolt pattern, and do in fact need a intake specifically made to fit them. Even if they did bolt on the regular intake would have port misalignment problems bad enough to negate even using the Vortecs.

There is no intake you can buy that will fit your engine now that will work on Vortecs later.

And before someone mentions them you don't want the Vortecs predrilled for standard intakes (from Paceparts.com) either. They are complete crap.

LG4 and TPI intakes have the same problem with regards to Vortec heads.... the ports on a LG4 intake are in the same place as a LB9 intake since the heads are the same, and both have their ports in a different place then the Vortec heads do. If you get lucky it might at least cover the head ports up, but it will be a total mismatch because the Vortec ports are a good ¼" off from where the earlier ports were, a waste of perfectly good heads.
