This happend to my friends 1989 or so GTA, he said he was driving it and as he pulled into his driveway, and all of a sudden Anti-Freeze starting comming through his vents
and it was about to run hot!
Now i have never heard, seen, or thought of this was possible.
How in the world did this happen, at 1st i thought he was jokeing, when i got to his house, anti-freeze was all over the place.

I had the same problem a few weeks ago after swapping in my 350. When I put the heater hoses on I pushed them all the way against the firewall. I ddin't get one tight enough and instead of dripping down to the ground it leaked inside of the A/C ducting. Backed the hoses off abit and tightened them down good. Haven't happened since. Wife was a bit upset. She was driving when it leaked in.

yup yup.. heater core.. not a fun fix, pretty much gotta remove the whole dash to get to it.. anyway, if you live in a warm area and can go without heat, you could always get a small section of 5/8 (usually) tubing and just put it between the hoses running to the heater core and bypass it, although you wont have no heat..

I got to do a heater core on my camaro and basically removed the entire dash, console, and passenger seat to get to the stupid leaking piece of sh*t heater core. Good luck with it man.

i did my heater core by removing 2 panels, took about 15 minutes.....if you have a panel that covers the underside of the dash on the pasenger side, remove it. you'll see a black box there...remove the 3 (i think it's three) screws that hold it in....one on the bottom left, one on the top right, and i think the other was on the bottom, in the middle. pop that panel off and the heater core is right there...you just need to remove the plastic bracket that holds it in place. there are 2 screws on the left side of it, way back there...I got them w/ a 1/4 nut driver and a few extensions. it's a little tough because of the center console but you can work your hands into the spot if they're small like mine. once you get those 2 screws out i think there are 1 or 2 on the right side...then the bracket will just pop out and the heater core just pulls right out (as long as you removed the hoses) the hardest part was getting the 2 screws back in the bracket on the left side, that took some patience and manuvering

Do your self a favor and check into what Z28cwby said. If those hoses are loose or cracked, the fluid will leak down into the box, out the lower vents and onto your floor mats. If thats not the case then, your heater core probably ruptured. Its not a hard fix, just time consuming. It takes a lot longer than 15 min. at least in my 89 RS it did. The shop was going to charge me $400 just for labor, I laughed in their face and did it myself in about 2-3 hours. I have heard that the cores made by GDI (Go-Dan Industries) are one of the best units to get. You don't have to remove the whole dash, just drop the steering column and pull the pass. side of the dash far enough to get at the heater box bolts. I think there is a

15 min? Man, there must have been some good stuff floating around back in 2000
. Plan on 4hrs to be on the safe side but 3 should do it. Loosening the dash up and pulling it out about an inch helps a lot. But then my console and radio pod is out due to changing carpet.

while 15 minutes is a bit of a record, you can usually do one on these car in under an hour. removing the dash does make things easier, but not necessary. you can reach all of the heater box bolts and remove the cover without dropping the dash. 1/4" ratchet, a swivel joint, and a couple extensions should make the job pretty easy

I can see it if you have done it before. But my hands are too big to get in there without loosening the dash. I could see what needed to be done but couldn't do anything but cuss it till I loosened the dash.
And I won't even talk about the running around getting a core and wasting three hours and still don't have one.

I can do them in 30-60mins and thats having a beer or 5. Not hard to do at all.
Re: Anti-Freeze pouring through A/C vents?!?!?!
I just replaced the core in my '86 and did not move/remove the dash. Removed the top dash pad to get my hand on the top nut but found I really didn't need to do even that. I got to all the nuts from underneath. Even put the top one back in!
