need advice on heads!!!

i have a '72 350 bored .060 over in my '85 trans am....
the heads it has now are 305 "h.o." heads with the 58cc combustion chamber and mild porting,

i have a set of "882" casting heads but theyre only 1.94 intake valve heads, and really want a set of 2.02's.

i found this set for sale-: 1965 2.02/1.60's with a 64cc chamber off of a 'vette, i guess theyre the 'fuelie' heads.--for 200 bucks and they still need to be cleaned, valve job, ported etc...
and was wondering if theyre worth the money and time, and if not, could any one reccommend what i should do for under 600-650 bucks????

any help would be great, this is one of the last things im doing before taking my car to the track in early may! thanks!

You won't be able to mount your accessories to those "Vette" heads.

882's shouldn't be considered for anything, unless you have a door that won't stay open.

Any particular reason you "need" 2.02" valves? Other than wanting them?

1.94" and possible 1.60" valves in your 416's sounds like the most sensible thing.

Also, by the time you freshen those old castings up, and pay for it all, you could own a brand new set of aluminum heads!

any reccomendations for heads to look for then?,

(my cam is a lunati bracket master, 292 adv. dur. and .480" lift,
edelbrock rpm air gap intake, demon 750, and edelbrock headers, flat top pistons, and just bought 1.6 roller rockers also)

orrr... what are the cheapest new heads to buy?, (other then vortecs, because i dont wanna swap my intake, its brand new and i just paid 200 dollars for it.)

For your budget, save a wee bit more and check into some World Product Torquer heads, Summit I think had them listed around $750 assembled.

DO NOT chinch out or rush into heads because you have a $600 budget RIGHT NOW in your pocket, the heads are 80% of the motors power making ability and not the place to slack. Check E-bay and see what they have to offer. I've bought 2 sets and been happy, got my AFR's from there for $1350 on my door step, had them checked and they were as good as new, plus came with brand new ARP head bolts, head gaskets, and intake gaskets.

I ran that same cam in my old 355, with 9.3:1 compression, junk 305 heads, rpm dual plane. Got me down to 12.74, but was consistent all summer in the heat at 13.00's. I would recommend at least a vic jr with that cam and 3.73 gears with 26" or 27" tall tires. I swapped out the RPM for a vic jr and did not lose any bottom end, but the car would easily pull past 6K, before it winded at 54-5500. I never did get a track time to compare since I broke a pushrod and then did the 388, but it was faster and pulled higher. Very consistent, repeatable cam. Also use about a 3500 stall, was getting 1.74-1.75 60's out of that set-up. More of a low rpm set-up, but again, that was from the intake I believe.

whoa! You got sub 13 second on 305 heads on a 350?
awesome! Now that's some much needed reassurance for me
416 305 heads? stock condition?

I never paid any attention to casting numbers back then. I ordered them from some company in Arizona. Aerohead I beileve was the name of the company, heads came with 2.02/1.60 valves, good to .550 lift, screw in rocker studs, guide plates, etc...for $375-$400 to my door, but that was 4yrs ago too, I had a tight budget and did'nt know as much about heads and I was leaving alot on the table if I woulda had some descent ones/better ones.

thanks for the insite on the heads and other stuff (cam etc.)
i think im gonna hold off for some pro toplines , like the 180/200's w/ a 2.08/1.60 or something.

i am heading to the track april 30th, so i will know what it does after that.

the rest of the drivetrain is a holeshot 2400, 700R-4 with shift kit, vette servo, race clucthes/seals, 3.42's with a mini-spool and hoosier quick time pro D.O.T.'s (26/9.5/16s) FOR NOW....

i wanna get a converter built to like 3200-3400 and go with something between a 3.73 and a 4.10.
