Block heater
Block heater
Was the block heater a very popular option on the 88 L98 IROCs? I have one on my IROC, it looks like it has never been used. I am afraid to plug it in, who knows what that think look like in the oil pan --ZAP--

They have nothing to do with oil. The block heater is in the water jacket of the block. Pretty well all canadian production cars have one installed from the factory.
A block heater is just a heating element in the coolent. Use a multimeter and check resistance across the plug. There should be about 11 - 20 ohms across the 2 pins and no continuity to the ground. If all that checks out then the block heater is fine.
