Ok, we replaced the fuel pump on my 1989 Iroc 305 tpi, then we replaced the filter after we noticed that it was acting funny on the highway, as in no power. Now it idles fine, it will go and back up fine, but as soon as you put it in drive, it dies, and after that it acts all goofy, and will sometimes die in reverse, fuel pressure is fine. I'm lost and need help, there has been a problem with the idle wandering, idleing at 900rpm in park, and about 500-600rpm in gear, I have to figure it out soon, prom is next weekend!

 

Have you tested the injectors. Your idles sounds normal rpm wise it will always drop down when you put it into gear.

Sounds like your IAC valve is going south

 

ok,I tripped trouble codes, none. It sits there and idles fine, I put it into gear and sat there with the brake on, and it ran fine. But it starts to move and it dies. like I said new filter new fuel pump and pressure is fine.

 

Like I said I would test the injectors if you have not done it. Fuel pump is one thing , injectors are a whole diffrent area .
