Ok, I was getting off work and I started my car. When I started it up it said my engine temp was off the scale wayyy above 300 if there was a 300 line, it said the parking brake was on. I turned it off and started it again and it still happened. The car drove fine, but then it just shut off when I was at a red light. When I turned it back on everything was fine. What could that off been. I am very confused.

 

Gauges are electrical, and so is the parking brake indicator. Maybe a short? Is the Service Engine Soon light on?

 

It may have been the alternator. Yesterday I couldn't start the car and I thought the battery was dead. But the car wouldn't hold a charge. So I got a new one and now it works fine. I also replaced all the stupid star bit bolts with hex bolts, so it can be serviced eaiser in the future.

 

Good; I'm glad to hear that the problem is solved. Yeah, I hate those Torx bits, too... my Jeep Wrangler uses them everywhere!

 

Something similar happened to me some weeks ago, I was getting on the highway and was putting the pedal to the floor, all of a sudden, red light in the corner lights up, never seen it before, engine temp is way above maximum, I am thinking "jesus christ what is happenng?" so I pull over to the side and I try and listen if there is anything wrong but I get nothing, I turn the car off and then back on and everything is A-OK again, haven't bothered me since.


Weird...
