Thermostat question

Im thinking about putting in a lower thermo than my stock 195 but Im not sure which. I also had a few questions too.

1)What will happen if I have a low thermo (160) and I drive around in the winter in about (30F) weather?

2)Will having a different thermo affect any other sensors/ECM because they are supposed to be working in tandem with a 195 thermo?

3)I live in PA so there are no emissions laws yet and the weather gets to be about the mid 90s (max) in the summer and mid 20s (min) in the winter. I drive mostly in the city, so what should I use?

to make it short and sweet, i ran a 160 in my L98 iroc with no problems, except maybe the engine ran around 140* all the time. i also had a lower fan switch in the head.

Run a 170* and an adjustable fan switch, then you can have the best of both worlds in summer and winter.

Dude last winter I had a 160 stat in my camaro and i froze my nuts off all winter. Before school I'd start the thing up 5 mins before I left and by the time I got to my girlfriends house to pick her up (which takes at least 15 mins to get to) a little bit of heat was just starting to spit out, and at its best, the heat was barely adequate...
Get a 180 stat if you have to deal with winter, trust me...

A 180°F and a lower fan control setting are a very good compromise. More than enough heat to satisfy the ECM for emissions and fuul closed-loop, yet plenty cool to allow a little hard running. You'll still have plenty of hot water on those 15° mornings, too.

Check out the tech articles on this subject. You will fid some good info. I personally think the 170 is the best compromise. But check out the articles, you might find that a 160 or a 180 works better for your needs.
