Finally alive again!!

Just got out of the garage after finally getting the 400 running again! If you remember I had my share of problems....here's a thread from a while back: https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...ghlight=smokes

Here's what I did: Had block re-honed and cleaned, new TS gapless rings w/"ring seal stuff", Clevite HP77 bearings. While it was apart, I also decided to install a CF clutch and a Moser 9"!!

I know it's only ran for 1/2 an hour, but all seems promising.

Idle is smoother, NO SMOKE WHATSOVER! Idling at 850. I did hear some clacking from the lifters when I first started it, but it quieted down after a minute or so.

Only problem I ran into was my cheapo fan switch decided to act up again... so I have to let it cool. And an exhaust leak. Not unexpected.

I still need to follow the break in procedure for rear, tinker with the fan switch, bleed the rear brakes, put the hood back on and hopefully I'm ready to roll....gently for a bit....

After all you've been through, it is finally starting to sound promising.

You had it dyno'd before, right? Assume you didn't this time.

Yes I did have it dynoed originally, and that's the numbers in my sig. That's also when it smoked and got my plugs oily - and was impossible to tune right.

Since I changed out the cheap "Enginetech" rings and aluminum bearings (yes- aluminum) , for respectable parts - I have more faith that those numbers have increased a little maybe. It's the same setup though!

Quick update:

After more tuning and tweaking, it's running great!! Even though I haven't dynoed it since it was originally built, the butt dyno says it's even more "torquey" than it was! I gotta get the SFC's on very soon if I want to continue this...

BTW - I recommend the Total Seal "Quick Seal" powder on a fresh build. The stuff works! At least it did for me. No oil burning since I installed the gapless rings and seating powder. I think one of the main reasons I had such a hard time tuning before is because I was burning so much oil. I just couldn't get it to idle lean enough at idle with so much oil in the mix. But, as a disclaimer, I still have some tuning to do there as well as additional jet changes - but it's much better! - Just "unrefined"...

For the first time since I've owned this car, I MIGHT be able to concentrate on cosmetics...and it needs it badly.

-And thanks to all that assisted me during this dilemma..
