Disc Brake Rear end

I just acquired an 86 TA parts car. It has a disc brake rear end. My 89 TA has drum brakes on the rear. Is changing to disc brakes worth the effort. The console is gone so no RPO codes. Any one know where they hide the build sheet? I would like to check the ratio!

If you're going to the trouble f swapping a rear end into your car, you will no doubt be changing the fluid, as common sense would dictate; at that time you can count the teeth and then you would know for sure. RPO codes only tell you what came in the car, not what's in it now.

well you are one step ahead if you have an entire car at your disposal. off the top of my head, you'll need the rear (duh), the lines and calipers on it, and you'll also need to use the proportioning valve from the disc-rear car. i believe the master cylendars are the same, someone correct me if i'm wrong. i would just pop the tires off the old car and take the rear down w/ all the parts on it (just dont bang it around while it's out of the car since it will still have the brake stuff attached) then swap the valve and hook the fluid lines up. then you can do a rear brake job (if you wisely choose so) and familiarize yourself w/ the new system on your car. i just thought about the parking brake cables also; i would just disconnect it at the brake handle and hook it up to your car, just to make sure you have all the right parts working together. hope this helps...

My 86 TA with disc rears has a 2.77 ratio. Just something to give you a guess. By the way, I do believe the rear discs came with 16" wheels also, so be sure to check if your 15" wheels (if that is what you have that is) will work.
