Modifying/porting vortecs for Comp XE274...

I did some searches and found that some people have been getting great results with vortecs and the Comp Xtreme Energy cams. The upgraded Scoggin Dickey heads have new springs, but how much would the stock vortec design benefit from some porting and what kind of porting should I have done. I have access to a guy who ports heads who will do it, I just want to know what to tell him. The current setup is a Goodwrench longblock with a Demon 625, shorty headers, Edelbrock RPM intake, 2200 stall.

Thanks for the help,
Matt

You also need to have the valve guides and a few other things machined for the extra lift.. that's the point I am at with my heads. I'm still trying to locate the exact amounts that need to be machined off and from where. If I find anything, I'll let ya know.

i am basically at the same point that tzfbird is at except i got the topline vortecs, and all the basics were done(trimmed guide bosses, tapped for screw in studs, pushrod holes drilled)they even had the intake ports smoothed on a jig for even gasket contact!
the only thing i'm going to do to mine,is remove some casting flash in a few of the intake ports, and maybe rough finish the intake ports while i'm there.the intakes are prety much as good as they get the way they come, there are a few places to touch up the exhaust ports, but the $ per gain ratio is not too good.you might get 15 or even 20 horses out ov it,but thats your call.

I'm not a pro porter/polisher, but I got great results from porting my vortecs. I went as far as I could in opening up the intake and exhaust ports.

I run the 268 HE, 1.6rr
