Doing the cam/ chain & sprockets on 88 trans-am 305 TPI, and with the gasket set came this shiny metal bushing-type thing about 1-3/4 " dia. thin metal like a piece of tubing but tinner about 1-1/4" deep

Someone sold you the timing set with the so-called 'repair sleeve', which is more expensive than a standard set I might add...

Does your current balancer have a leaking problem or a groove in it? If not you dont need that sleeve.
