Stupid cooling fan!need help please

Ok so lets start from the beginning...I only have one cooling fan,so here it goes. Last summer my car started overheating really really bad in stop in go traffic. After replacing thermostat and waterpump I realised that the fan isnt cutting on to cool engine down. It would cut on when A/c was on...but not when the car was running hot at all.We found it had a bad motor, replaced that...but still it didnt turn on when it was suppose to Finally I just got aggrivated and hooked it to a ground to where whenever the car was on...The fan was.Has anyone ever had this problem and figured out what the hell was wrong?

Today I got my car back from getting my 350 installed(backyard garage for $300). Everything sounded good except for the fact he said my fan motor was bad....after taking the car home and taking off the fan...the motor is fine....when taken off of the radiator, the fan spins freely...but when we bolt it in....it gets hung up somehow! I am so aggrivated! we took it back of..and again it spun freely..put it back on..and hung up again....grrrh! somebody shoot me and put me out of my suffering :P

I had the same exact problem, mine turned out to be a loose fan fuse in the fuse box, found out by wiggling the fuse when it hit the set temp. for the fans to come on, I had to take the fuse box down and drop a little solder on the backside of the metal clip that holds the fuse in,,,now it gets a good solid connection and the fan always comes on when it should

Could it be the Temp sending unit or the fan switch itself? Just a couple of ideas.

My fan was rubing on the fan shroud. Turns out the previous owner was a young kid who at one point took my car airborn. When he landed he bent the support that the radiator sits on. Once I had that straighten the radiator sat straight so then the shoud which is attached to the rad. was now straight so then POOF..like magic, the rubbing or binding of the fan went away. Also turns out the binding of the fan on the shroud caused the fan relay to burn out because it was always on which also caused my fan motor to burnout alsobecause it was always stuck on but never moving. To make a long story short make sure everything is lined up properly.

Darbster...

You have a bad Fan Switch. That's the exact same thing that happened to my 91, the fan would come on only when the AC is on and you're driving under 37 mph.

There's two "switches" that turn the fan on. One gets info from the Fan Switch in the passenger head, and the other gets info from a switch in the AC. Obviously, the AC switch is okay, and the Fan Relay is okay, but the Fan Switch is bad.

What I did was tap into the power lead into the Fan Relay (should be located on the drivers side against the firewall) and run it to a switch with a power lead and a ground. Every time i want the fan on, I just flick the switch, really nice feature, you can control the temp.
