Broken Up Cat = HP Loss ?
Broken Up Cat = HP Loss ?
As far as I know , my cat is NOT clogged, but, the insides of my cat rattle a lot when you bang on the bottom of it. Does this restrict flow or open up flow ? Is it moving out of the way of the exhaust flow, or into the way ??? I have noticed the car seems less quick since I bought it 3 years ago, but I thought maybe I was just getting used to a fast car.

Yes, it can restrict flow, usually the pieces will turn sidways and block the exit pipe.
They can also come completly out of the cat and clog the muffler.

Yes it can restrict. The ceramic honeycomb matrix has broken. I discovered this when I replaced mine. One portion had come lose and turned sideways so instead of being aligned to the flow it became a big restriction.
