3 inch exhaust pipe and 2 1/2 inch muffler

I noticed my muffler has a 2 1/2 inch clamp securing the 3 inch pipe that comes from the cat. Do I have the right muffler inlet size ? Did someone squeeze down the diameter of my pipe to fit into the muffler inlet pipe ? Sould I have 3 inch clamps at the muffler ? Is it normal for the 3 inch pipe to come down to 2 1/2 inches at the ends ?

Thanks

Sam thing here, the cat outlet pipe is 3-inch comes out into dual 2 1/2 inch pies from the muffler. Seems normal to me, you would be able to see if somebody tried to squeeze the pipe on.

Mine is like that, too. I had MAF relay problems and a backfire blew out my GM muffler. Had to get a Blowmaster (cheapest). Seemed odd to neck the pipe down like that...

Bjase,

Were both mufflers necked down at the inlet ?

maksik7,

Yeah, but on mine the 3 inch pipe from the cat is tapered down to 2 1/2 inches when it clamps onto the muffler inlet. What is the inlet diameter on your muffler ?
