Question about possible Blowby...
I have dart ie pro 180 heads, and a hsr manifold. I've noticed that, after taking off the manifold a few times, there seems to be a sealing problem with the manifold. it doesn't seal the bottom of the gasket as well as it seals the top of the gasket. Looks like the angle on the manifold is off a little. It would suck in oil through the runners and i started to notice that i was burning oil. If the manifold came loose a little and the runners were sucking in oil from the lifter valley, would that cause an explination to what i think might be blowby? the plenum had a nice ammount of fresh oil stained in the inside, and the breather on the driver side seems to smoke on WOT. on idle it barely smokes any, only when the engine is hot. Oil does not shoot out of the dipstick though, but it's hard to get an accurate oil reading because it's always above the line... the rings have about 5k miles on them, and at 3k i had them checked and 6 held 180 psi, 1 was at 178psi and another was at 175 psi. do you think i've got blowby, or the intake is leaking air into the block which is making it look like i've got blowby? it looks to me like this only happens after maybe 100 miles after putting the intake back on. but it could also just be my imagination. thanks guys, i appricaite the help

Your compression tester readings are fine.
Did you put sealer on the rocker studs? They go RIGHT DIRECTLY INTO the intake ports from the crankcase.
You can have a good competent racing machine shop (not your neihgborhood parts store) check the intake surface angle, and trim it a bit if it's off. Wouldn't be the first time an aftermarket intake was machined wrong.

No... i didn't put sealer on the rocker studs because when i looked at it, the holes the studs go into are closed at the end. i used sealant on the head bolts and the intake bolts though. next time i take the intake off i'll have it checked (and put sealer on the rocker studs). might have holley send me back a new manifold though if it's at a wrong angle.
u think that's my problem? like i said before, when i looked at the drilled holes for the rocker studs, they dont look like they have an opening anywhere for oil to get in.

I have a set of IE 200s; those holes definitely go all the way through on those. Most aftermarket heads are that way so I'd expect the 180s to be like the majority.
Intakes only; not the exhausts. Those are above a water port IIRC, and may be blind holes. I don't recall right this minute.
I'd sure look at those intake rocker studs REAL close, if I was having that problem.

what do i look for? oil? ... there's oil all over lol
if it's not that, what else do you think it could be? u might be right though because the plugs show oil on the intake side. thing is... it could also be from sucking in oil from the runners do to the damn intake not sealing at the bottom. i put some gasket sealant on the bottom of the ports to see if that would stop the problem... so far so good, it doesnt seem to be blowing oil from the back but i still see smoke comming from the breather on wot and a very small amount durring idle.
