I went the other way. The connectors for the computer and stereo and some other things are different. If you do this you have to swap the harness too. Other than some different colored wires, everything else is the same.

here's an idea. buy the car and drop in a 350 crate.that would be awesome.

I'd take a 90 IROC over an 87 TA. The IROC is the last year, it has the new dash w/ airbag wheel, and its speed density. No brainer in my book, build the IROC. Unless its a total beater.

What's wrong with the IROC? If the body is okay build the IROC and still buy the T/A for a later project. $200.00 is to cheap to pass on. I bought my car for $250.00 and never looked back. Just take your time and rebuild at your pace.
