Loose steering colum! HELP!!!
Loose steering colum! HELP!!!
I have a 87 T/A. THe whole steering colum is loose, and you a 1/2 inch play all around.. how do i fix this? what all has to be took off/how do i get to it? THANKS

there's actually a tech article about tightening the steering column. If you run into snags, Vader has some really sweet blow up diagrams of the steering column. I personally had to take all the electronics stuff outta the inside of the colum, and remove the tilt wheel stuff and get down to I think they were 4 reverse torx screws (reverse torx screws, stil the star chape, but the screw head looked like a torx bit, had to get a socet to fit around it). I pulled them out, and put *plenty* of locktite on there...so much, those screws will probably never come out...unless locktite rots over time
then put it all back togather. To simplify things, I pulled out the extra screws and starter mechanism, and totally pulled the column so I could work inside.

If you have tilt steering, you will also need a pivot pin remover from Mac Tools or Snap On, or you will have to fab one up.
