TPI vs TBI fuel pump

I have heard that a TPI fuel pump is better than a TBI fuel pump; is that true? If so, will the TPI pump match up to the TBI sending unit? Thanks.

The TPI pump is a high pressure unit and will supply 40+ psi of fuel. The TBI is a low pressure system and will run no more than 12 to 15 PSI. If you are swapping pumps go with a TPI pump or another form of high flow unit. I would look into a walbro pump since I don't trust GM pumps.

I am not 100% sure if they are exactly the same but the pumps are interchangable. I am pretty sure they are the same though.

Yep i just replaced the factory pump with a tpi pump. About the sending units, the tpi does not have a return line the the tbi do. Also after i replaced the pump, i can now hear the pump, does this mean anything or is that normal?

You're running the TPI pump on your TBI? Didn't know the regulator in the TB would hold that much pressure.

It handles it just fine. All of the extra fuel just goes right back down the return line.
