ignition question (can you have too much?)
Ok, in my switch from tbi to carb I have installed the RPM intake, throttle bracket, 750cfm Edelbrock (cables not hooked up yet), MSD Pro Billet HEI distributor #8365 (coil in cap, ready to run). Left to do: AFPR, hook up cables (throttle and detent) to carb - I am going to rig up something with parts off my throttle body linkage. One more thing and that's what my question is about. I have an MSD 6a ignition box and am wondering if installing it will benefit my setup at all. The reason I wonder about this is because the distributor I have has a high energy module that produces 50% more current than stock distributor modules and produces hi energy spark up to 9000rpm. The pro billet produces 100mj of spark to 4000rpm and the 6A produces 105 to 115mj to 3000rpm. Is the 6A going to be overshadowed by the pro billet distributor?

naw short of burning the plug gaps wider and the possibility of the plugwires breaking down, there is no negative aspects of too much secondary ignition power.
The high output module is much more likely to continue working under the requirements of the msd than a factory one.

I'm assuming you're saying there's no need to use the MSD6A along with the MSD pro billet distributor. If I can keep things simpler and not even use the box if it really won't benefit anything, that is what I want to do.

well, the distributor (and specifically the module) should be considered the starting point of the ignition event. If it is not good and repeatable, the MSD won't help much. But, when an msd is combined with a good quality module, coil and plug wires, you have a complete high quality primary and secondary ignition. So, yes, use both.
