Is my AC system pressurized?
My AC doesn't work and I'd like to remove my junky condenser so I can get more air on my radiator. I do not think my system is pressurized now...but how can I know for sure before I started unbolting parts? Is it best to have a shop test it and tell me if it's pressurized or not? I'm new to AC. thanks.

It would be illegal for a non-EPA-certified person to press in the Schraeder valve on the accumulator and see (and hear) if any R-12 Freon comes out and it would also be illegal for a non-EPA-certified person to hook up a gage to the Schrader valve to read the R-12 pressure indicated on the gage. The only legal way to determine this is to take it to the shop and have an EPA certified technician tell you for sure, and if it is pressurized, he can evacuate the system for you. This should be enough infomation for you to make a decision on the best way to approach the situation.
