Save the Firebird / Trans Am Poll

Moderators: Sorry for posting this here, but there's no lounge forum on this board. I felt it would be more appropriate in the History/Restoration forum, but apparently Drew disagrees because he closed the thread.

I'm aware of yesterday's announcement. This poll doesn't have anything to do with continuing the current model beyond 2002.

The original poll was started on 9/17/01 using CreateAPoll.com. On 9/20/01 CreateAPoll's website crashed, and hasn't come back up since. There were about 130 votes at the time.

I've restarted the poll using FreeTools.com. Those of you who voted between 9/17/01 and 9/20/01 using the original poll, please vote again when you get the chance. Those who haven't voted yet, please take the time to do so. It may not do any good, but you never know, and it only takes a few seconds of your time.

Thanks a lot!

GM actually gave us all a chance to vote on this subject 5 years ago when they announced that 2002 would be the last for F-Body.

They wanted us all to vote with our checkbooks.... and unfortunately, that didn't happen (I'm partly to blame since I like the 1st, 2nd, 3rd gens more than the 4th)

Chevy Muscle basically got it right. NOBODY wants the Firebird/TA go away but GM somehow couldn't seem to make it pay for itself. GM has it's head so far up it's backside it can't even see the damage it's doing to itself. All they care about is cost cutting.

Somehow Ford makes money with the Mustang. GM can't figure out how to make money with the FBody twins. Morons.

Can they interest you in a new Pontiac Vibe or perhaps a Sunfine GT? How about an Aztec? They're much better targeted at the young, active lifestyle.

"It's over, Johnny. It's OVER."

The only active lifestyle I'm interested in is the one that covers the 1/4 in less than 13 seconds.

Well, (some won't like this), but they should stop the 'twins' crap and build just one f-body.... that would be big savings from the begining (body design) to the end (parts inventory). Then they should share more parts with the corvette. I own a TA and camaro and love'em both... but hell, I would rather they stop one model rather than both.

And another thing.... GM is stupid for having so many divisions that make similar (competing) vehicles. Like the surburban by GMC and Chevy .... just freakin make one! Or buick and pontiac??????

They should only have Chevy, Cadiallac, and maybe Saturn

I'm not convinced of that. There are a lot of Firebird owners that have remained within Pontiac when buying other types of cars. I, for one, like the Bonneville and Grand Prix, and would buy either of them if I were shopping for a non-muscle car. I'd also recommend either of them to a family member or co-worker.

The poll results so far are consistent with the original poll before it crashed. About 50% of those who vote say they won't buy GM ever again if the Camaro returns without the Firebird. I don't think the GM bean counters have thought this through. They're only counting the sale of Firebirds when they removed it from the lineup. They're not counting the sale of other Pontiac and GM vehicles attributed to Firebird owners.

The point of the poll is to bring this into the equation and show it to GM. We've already had "Save the F-Body" websites, and that didn't work. It didn't work because GM bean counters don't care about loyalty, heritage, fun, or customer satisfaction. They only care about counting beans, but they're not even capable of getting that right without taking the above into consideration. I'm just trying to help them with their math.

The F-Body as we know it is dead. That doesn't mean it can't or won't come back later. I believe that our continued support of the Firebird, and showing GM we expect them to listen to their customers, will be important in determining its future.
