rebuild or crate?

ok, so i have a 305 sbc it is burning oil like it is gas, no joke. i went on a road trip(about 2600 mile) and used 6-8 quarts of oil. so my question is, what would u guys do. rebuild the 305 or get a long block crate 350? i won't be driving the car much since i am going into the air force on the 29th. any help would be great.

Get a rebuild 350, or get a crate engine.

If ypu know ppl in automachanics .. get a 350-383 ..
if not the 330hp crate engine is pretty nice.

Not sure I'd spend my last few weeks of civilian life swapping a motor, sell it or park it and start on it when you have some free time.

That said, quickest way to get it back on the road would be a crate engine.

This one is no contest. For what you would spend rebuilding that 305, you can get a much nicer crate 350. GM has some nice 350 crate motors for around $1800, IIRC. For more (a lot more) you can get a ZZ383/425. Good luck.
