Lost my ONLY key to my 91 'bird! What can I do? Please Help!!

Yeah, stupid me lost my only key to my 91 formula! Has anyone ever done this? What can I do? I called pontiac and gave them my vin number, but they said that we didn't have the code for the key. The car has been stolen before, and they put in a new dash board in, so I don't know what the original vin number is. We gave them the vin number that we got after it had been stolen. I guess that's why they couldn't find the code for the key, or whatever. So is their anywhere else on the car that the original vin number may be? If not, can I just replace the ignition, and it be o.k., or will I have to replace somehing else for this damn passkey stuff? Any help would be GREATLY appriciated. Thanks Travis

Look on the under side of your hood or the inside of a fenders, all your body panels should have a gm sticker listing the cars vin. Thats if your body panels are orginal. A good place to start is to pull the spare tire out and look on the inside of the rear quarter. A last ditch effort would be to replace the lock cylinder with a standard one, then burning a new PROM to remove vats.

Woah woah woah!! Before you go replacing the lock cylinder, call the dealership. They ought to be able to make you a new key without having the old one. You'll have to provide them with the VIN and some sort of proof that you actually own the vehicle of course.

The VIN should be on your car's registration. Take that to your dealer and they can make you a new key.
