lining up oil pump shaft with distributor
Im about ready to drop in the distributor in my freshly built 383. Question is, whats the best way to line up the oil pump shaft with the end of the distributor ANd lines up with the cam gear? Just trial and error, try it and bump it a little? Novice question I know, I just remember when I replaced the distributor in my old LO3, I accidently bumped the oil pump shaft and it took me FOREVER to get everything lined back up again

You can use a long screwdriver to do it, or just drop it in and turn the motor over by hand untill the dist. keys in with the pump.

what i ahve done is line up the rotor with #1 @ tdc as usual and leave the dist sitting down as far as it will go and bump the starter a bit and it will drop right in and your rotor should be in the right spot still if done correctly.
