If you have a cast iron head, you'll have to have someone else look at the number, or use a couple of mirrors.

(Just a little iron-head humor - very little, I know...)

The head casting numbers are typically in the rocker area. You'll have to remove a rocker cover to find the number. You can see the cast numbers here, between the valve springs:
