windshield washer pump losing it's prime...

and therefore there's NO fluid coming out of the nozzles to clean the windshield (bloody dangerous).
everytime i bleed it and few minutes latter...no fluid again (gggrrrrrr)
there should be a check valve of some sord to prevent fluid from going back to the reservoir (=no return valve)
please help before i end up at the NUT-house.

Hey dude I just fixed mine. It was doing same thing. I removed it, 3 bolts and nut to wiper arm (need to remove vent screen) and cleaned up the electrical conections with sandpaper and switch cleaner. Seemed it just had a bad earth. Now works great. Could be worth a try as its easy and no cost.

Front Windshield Washer Pump Response Time

Number: 84-123

Section: 10(I)

Date: May, 1984

Subject: FRONT WINDSHIELD WASHER PUMP RESPONSE TIME

Model and Year: 1984 CAMARO

TO: ALL CHEVROLET DEALERS

Some customers may comment on some 1984 Camaros front windshield washer pump response time. A properly operating system will apply a full spray pattern of fluid to the windshield before the completion of the first complete wipe cycle (from park to full wipe, back to park).

This condition is attributable to the washer fluid draining back into the container and the washer pump having to be reprimed.

<img src=http://members.home.com/crussel/hose_routing.gif width=75%>
To correct this condition, the washer hose must be rerouted to provide an anti-drainback loop. This is accomplished by routing the washer hose under the accelerator cable, over and rearward of the brake booster, down to the side rail and forward to the solvent container (see illustration).

The washer hose should be shortened as required to eliminate the excessive length. The right and left hose assembly to the washer nozzles should be replaced with 5/32" (4.0 mm) inside diameter hose, and routed per illustration. (Start of production hose was 7/32" inside diameter.)

The hose routing change was implemented in January, 1984. The small diameter hoses were implemented in production in April, 1984.
