lifter preload
lifter preload
i have a set of comp pro magnum lifters and the instructions say that the lifter should have no more than .002-.004 preload hot setting. how do you check the preload of the lifters? would this equal out to an 1/8 or 1/4 turn maybe?

Someone on here, a while ago, calculated out the thread count on the rocker arm bolts and figured it out, but I don't remember who it was.
Have you tried the search feature? Try key words "thread, count, turn". Those should get you the answers you need.

You won't go far wrong with 1/4 turn. In theory, anywhere from zero lash to just shy of bottoming out the lifter pluger won't make ANY difference if you never float the valves. Reality is, if you float the valves less preload is better than more (less distance for the lifters to "pump up" and hang the valve off it's seat where the piston can come up and smack it crooked).
