Basically the cable screws into the tailshaft housing of the tranny and into the back of the speedo. I'm not sure exactly what all it will take to get it out and through the firewall. There should be a grommet on the firewall that you can temporarily remove to get the old cable out and the new one in. It should be fairly straight forward other than that. You just might have to snip a couple of wire ties holding the cable out of the way of wiring harnesses. I wish I could tell you more in detail but I've never done it on a thrid gen before. Hope this helps some.

You hit it right on the nose. Instead of wire ties, there are two clamps that need to be unbolted. You can detatch the cable from the back of the speedo from under the dash. Get a flashlight and look up at it, you will see a metal peice retaining the cable. Just push it towards the speedo with a screwdriver (or ur hands) and pull the cable.
