tips to pass nj emissions

I just thought I'd pass along a few tips to pass nj emissions. Some of these may work in other states also.

There are two ways to not get a dyno test without failing inspection.

Studded tires are legal in nj from 11/1 - 4/15. Because stuuded tires and a metal dyno don't go well together the car would get a 2500 rpm test. (doesn't check for nox)
You are also allowed to come to inspection 2 monts early so you could use this on any car that expires in 11 through 6 as long as you get there befor the 15th of april. You'll have to invest in a cheap set of tires and rims but at least you have a better chance of passing.

Also there is a low milage exemption. This would get a 2500 and not a dyno. Any car that drives less than 10,000 miles in two years is eligable, but you have to ask for it. The first time you inspect the car after registration you get to tell the inspector how far you drive it, so it really doesn't matter just tell them its less than 10K. After your first inspection the state has a record and can check how far you've driven.

Exhaust leaks seem to sometimes help. I don't understand why but i've seen some cars with exhast leaks pass even thought they run like crap. (you do have to have at least somethign coming out the tailpipe or they can't do the test) You'll fail for the leak but if your close on emissions you might pass. Just fix the leak and bring it back.

If I come up with more tips i'll post them. I see people try everything to get the car to pass. Maybe one day it'' put these tips to use and actually get mine to pass

Good call on those dude. I'm going to be taking mine in a few months and with the new engine I'm sure I'm going to have some problems. Fortunately I work in a garage that has a dyno so there is definately a way to make it work.
