Does anyone else's MSD 6A make noise?

I have my used MSD 6A installed and mounted on the firewall right in front of the driver. With the windows up and not moving, you can hear the box making a buzzing sound... is this normal???

The noise should go away if you rubber mount it.

L98,

Does the sound remind you of a camera flash recycling? the power supply has a similar oscillator and similar whining sound.

The noise is the high voltage power supply oscillator switching off and on rapidly. It's normal for this type of CD box (and camera flashes).

The transformer in the units will make a buzzing or humming sound. We coat the components to make them water resistant, if this coating cracks on the laminations of the transformer you will get this buzzing noise. It is not detrimental to the unit in anyway, but if it is to bothersome we can replace the transformer in the unit and recoat it which will quite it down. All and all you should not here it.

Thanks,

Joe

if you dont have rubber mounts, get a piece of fuel hose and cut 4 pieces off, each about a 8th inch long, use them as mounts. btw, mine didnt make noise on my 74
