Need advice on upgrades
Ok, it's time for me to start throwing together a list for my 1984 Z28 Camaro. I have been trying to work on the quadrajet carb thats on it right now, but it was ghetofied and i'm not good with cars ... yet ....
I have the carpet torn out and all the interior peices removed, tomorrow i start laying down new carpet and giving it a good cleaning. After this is done i'll have my repair and upgrade books, should be here any day now.
What I need is advice on where to spend my money to get what I want. This is my first project car ever, any help would be appreciatded.
Here is what I got so far, as far as I know.
-Quadrajet Carb (stock?)
-305 (stock)
-and i have no idea what transmission i have , its a stock automatic i think.
note: I have a 1988 GMC 2500 VAN with a 350 in it, the engine runs good, but the transmission blew and it got towed away. Should I pay the money to get that van back to put the 350 in the camaro?
Ok what I want out of this car is a solid 350hp, 400+ torque, and a nice exaust
What should I put on my list for 2006 ?

1) 350 with good heads.
2) A complete exhaust change to headers, 3" from the y-pipe to muffler.
3) A good cam.
4) A rebuilt q-jet.
Maybe:
5) An aftermarket or GMPP intake manifold.

First thing first,
Get a good intake system (dual snorkle air box if you dont have the H.O. 305 already).
Then a full exhaust syste. Headers (good quality ones, they pay for themselves in how much of a PITA they go in. Trust me on this one... check the exaust board for recommendations in their STICKIES). Then get a high flow direct fit 3" catalytic converter (they get rid of a lot of "bad" noises, make you legal, and dont restrict the exhaust with the way they're made now days).
Then a cat-back system of your choice (I have a hooker cat-back, and love the sound!).
My exhaust is as follows: SLP 1 5/8" headers (3" collectors) w/ air and O2, Catco 3" direct fit catalytic converter, and 3" hooker cat-back.
The exhaust system on these cars are the BIGGEST bottleneck. Expect atLEAST 25hp from opening the exhaust up
Then I suggest getting some more appropriate rods and hangers for your CCC-Qjet (see the Carb board for this).
After that, I'd suggest a better intake manifold. Depending on where you want to go w/ a cam, your intake choice will differ. I have the ZZ4 intake (it was about 100 dollars shipped, used from eBay).
Then a cam and ignition work.
When you really want to open up the ponies though, get some head work done (you can do it yourself and save a lot of money, or have someone else do it. Most places charge an arm and your first born depending on how well you want it to flow).
