vacuum heater control valve

Does anybody know where I can buy a metal heater control valve? So I won’t have to be broken down on the side of the road again. I have heard you can get one off a 1970’s truck but I don’t know which one.

Not that I'm aware of. If you're really worried about getting stranded then jsut bypass it so that coolant ALWAYS passes through the heater core. The only time it actually bypasses the coolant from the heater core is when you switch on "Max A/C" so it's not a super-critical thing to get rid of.
