Depends on your position. If you are sitting on the intake or have your feet on the ground in front of the car.

If the timing mark on the balancer moves towards the advance direction in the pic, then it's advancing.

i was argueing with someone and needed a second opinion, thanks i thought that was correct but wasnt sure and didnt want to make an *** of myself.

Advanced means it fires BEFORE the piston hits TDC.
