Fuel system problems....what a pain.....anybody else have this or know how to fix ?
I drive an 88 with the LO3, the entire fuel system is stock and lately it has had problems. I took it to a mechanic and he said that it is a problem with all 1988 Corsica's, Berretta's, and some Camaro's. Mine unfortuneatly now has that problem. The mechanic looked at it and said it is an intermittent problem, meaning that it only happens every so often. If you ask me it is very often but he said he will not know what is wrong until something completely breaks or shuts down. Apparently I will know when that happens because my car will simply not run any longer. I know its not the computer but I am wondering if anyone else with an 88 or otherwise has had this problem? If so what was the problem and how much did it cost to be fixed or are you just driving around with it? How much am I looking at for a new fuel system? Any amount of money would be worth it to correct the problem and not have to deal with this pain. Just wanna say thanks for any help you can give me ahead of time.

It sounds like it could be a fuel pump that is going bad. I think in the LO3 its in the tank and not inline. You may be able to pull the tank and replace it. Next time you have the problem, leave the key in the on position and crawl under the car to see if you hear the pump going...

pump will only run a couple seconds when you turn the key on with the engine off so don't go by that. It could very well be a fuel pump problem though. I'm not sure if your car has a fuel pressure port or not. I know the truck doesn't but not sure on the car. if it does, next time it does, push the schrader valve in and see if you have fuel pressure. If it's really a problem, might be worth just buying a new pump and having it put in. If the car's very old, pumps probably short lived anyway.

Thanks guys. Forgot to mention the mechanic said it is something in the fuel relay system. Would it be worth it to pay for the Painless Electric Fuel Pump Relay and Wiring Harness? It's only 27 bucks from Jegs (local parts store dont know if you have heard of it) Maybe that would fix the problem or at least wouldnt hurt. Anybody else used or heard of Painless? Good buy or...???
