Heater control

Don't know where else to post this, it's an old subject that seems to have no answer. My Heater and vent air all comes out the defroster. A/C functions are normal. I replaced the vacuum swith in the control unit and it worked for a while. I glued the vacuum lines on and it worked for a while. If I take it apart and push on the back of the vacuum switch it starts working. It would seem that the new switch is bad? Or there is not enough vacuum to keep it seated. Anyone? Any place to read service bullitines on the web?

I'd find where the system picks up vacuum off the engine first. not sure where it is but you can probably find where the line comes through the firewall near the evaporator case. follow it and make sure there are no breaks in it. inspect the hoses behind the control. If all this checks out, make sure you have vacuum to the switch while it's failing. if that's all good, I think the new switch is bad.

Usually it's a worn out switch or poor vacuum source. You could have a bad 'new' switch. Who knows how long it's been sitting on the shelf--the rubber parts get hard and don't seal correctly. Check your vacuum source for the switch, make sure it's in good condition. It's a hard line that connects to a vacuum source in the engine bay--usually toward the rear of the engine near the fire wall. It's a fairly thin line--just follow vacuum lines until you find it. Or look on the fire wall for a hard line--may look like a wire.
