main cap orders

ok guys i havnt posted here in a while due to the fact that ive got my sights set on a 94 z-28 but i got a problem...

a friend of mine is freshening up a 305 out of a 1990 camaro to put in his pickup truck. however, in the process of tearing the engine down he got the main caps mixed up so if you guys know the order in which the main caps go (by numbers stamped on them) that would be really cool
thanks in advance guys and gals

Hopefully they've been stamped 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 from front to back.

The rear should be really easy. If it's been stamped "5", the front should have been "1". If it's been stamped "1" (although I don't know why), the front would have been "5".

If you can't figure out the order, you might be able to experiment with a bore gauge and a lot of patience. There are 23 ways to incorrectly install the caps. You'd be luckier with a 4 bolt block though, there'd be only 5 wrong ways to do it.

If you don't have a bore gauge or patience, you can have the block and caps align honed.
