Take a look at the 8th character of your VIN. If it is an "H", you have (or at least the car originally had) an LG4. If a "G", you have the more powerful (190 HP) L69.
What does your air cleaner look like and/or say? If it has a single snorkel, LG4. If there are two snorkels and it says "305 HO", L69.
In '85, the LG4 finally got higher compression than it had before, but power was only 155 anyway. The 165-horse LG4 didn't show up until '86, and even then only in the higher-end models.
But, for what it's worth, even if an LG4, it's still a better base on which to build than an LO3. I sure like the way mine turned out.
