coolant spewing out of heater hose

i just wanted to know why i always end up blowing my heater hoses. today i smelled coolant and sure enuf there was a small slit in the big heater hose. this will be the 3rd time ive replaced the damn thing. is it cuz these hoses are so close to the engine/intake on the V8 firebirds? also, should i get some of those jackets for all ur hoses. i think u can get them at parts stores.

How hot does your car run? You may have a leaking head gasket. That would /could cause to much heat and pressure. Let it cool and take the radiator cap off. Is the coolant dirty looking? Does it smell like exhaust? Start the vehicle and let it warm up with the cap off. If the coolant is foamy or bubbling these are also dead givaway signs that your leaking hot combustion gas into the coolant system. And remember, just because this might be happening doesnt mean you have to be leaking coolant into the oil or out the exhaust. It takes a bigger gap to leak fluid than air.

I hope for your sake that this isn't the case, but it could be. As I noted before, this problem will most often make the car run hot.
