fuel pump too small??
hey everyone i have an 83 camaro (originally a LG4 305)
but it now has a 350 that puts out decent power.. my only problem is im burning up my mechanical fuel pumps once a year...
this is gonna be my third time replacing it in 3 years.. they are only $14 but im wondering if the stock 305 fuel pump is just too small and weak to keep up with the 350??
i have a 600cfm 4barrel nothin too big.. any suggestions??
the only reason i haven't upgraded to a performance fuel pump is because my current fuel pump has 3 fuel lines (fuel in, fuel out, and a return line abck to the tank). all perormance pumps are only 2 lines(fuel in, fuel out) so i have nowhere to hook hte return line..
is it possible my 350 is too much for the LG4 fuel pump?

The stock pump is fine. Use it. It will support well in excess of 400 HP. It is not possible to meter enough fuel through a 600 CFM carb to exceed the pump's capacity.
I can't imagine "burning up" mechanical fuel pumps though; that just doesn't happen.
Depending on why you're replacing them, you have somehting else going on.
If the spring is breaking, try a lightweight drive rod such as the Moroso one.
If they just can't seem to move enough fuel, check your lines, especially in and near the tank, for built-up crusties of the ages. hat is particularly likely to be a problem if the car has ever sat around for a year or 2 at a time.

Throw a gauge on the fuel line.
If your pressure drops drastically at WOT then you know the pump cant support the engine.
My car has the original 305 pump on the 350 and it still works like a charm!

Two of my cars had a pump problem, both 305 to 350 swaps, and both crapped out in 3rd gear at the track with the stock pump. Replaced one with an electric pump and one with this carter pump, problem solved in both cars. A close friends car with a modded 305HO, same problem. All low 14 to mid 13 second cars, not 400 hp engines.
