should there be a check valve

hey guys,
my car takes like 1 min. to start in the morning, if I look at my see through fuel filter I can see as soon as I shut down the engine the fuel flies back down the line. should there be a check valve in there that stops the fuel from flowing backwards, or is there some thing else wrong here. its an 305 lg4 engine with a q-jet. thanks

I checked, no leaks. and I get great gas mileage to. just starts hard because of lack of fuel.

Even if the line all the way back to the tank is empty(not very likely since the fuel comes out of the top of the tank), it will only take a few seconds to reach the carb. Maybe the pump is getting weak?

Also, if the line is drained overnight your car should still start right up and run for a little while--the carb holds fuel in the fuel bowl for quite a while.
