followed the set minimum air since the O2 sensor won't budge with engine warmed up.and after 30 seconds or long with ALDL jumped across, turn off key and remove paper clip, disc the IAC,when restart the car it idles wildly, way fast over 3K,no adjustment to torx screw has any effect at all,WTF,shut the car off b4 she blows, reconnect IAC and back to a 1500 idle???just gonna drive the thing until it blows, this car is really annoying me,
any more suggestions today b4 it hits the road tommorrow for a 500 mile trip??

Wrong procedure! Jumper the ALDL connection, turn on the key, disconnect the IAC, remove the paper clip, start the engine, adjust the minimum air, now plug back in the IAC, kill the engine, disconnect the - battery cable to clear the codes.

Yep, otherwise the IAC re-opens accomplishing nothing. With the key on and the jumper in place the IAC goes to 0 counts, otherwise it is around 120 Counts. That is the high idle you are experiencing.

It does, but not unless you unplug it with the key on and the ALDL jumpered. If not the IAC goes back to it's park position. The park position varies slightly from calibration to calibration. The typical park position is greater than 100 counts. That is about 1/2 open. The IAC is just a huge vacuum leak. Ever notice how the engine will flare up way high on a cold start and quickly drop back to a 1,000 rpm idle. Like crank, fire, jump to 2,000, then drop back down to 1,000, then slowly decay down to a normal speed as the engine warms up. That is due to the IAC park position. I changed it to 50 counts on my TBI and guess what, no start-up flare!

it went like this...
jumper in,key on,waited at least 30 sec.,unplugged IAC,turn key off pulled jumper,started car,way fast idle @3k,turned torx screw,no change,still @3k,hand gunned it to see if it would drop,nothing ,still @3k,turned car off,plugged IAC back in,restarted and back to @1500???

When you jumper the connection and turn the key on, do you hear the IAC close and does the SES light flash? If not check to be sure you are jumpering the right terminals. When you jump the terminals, the IAC should close. I don't see how it can be fully closed when unplugged, idle at 3,000, then you plug it in and it somehow extends more and the idle goes to 1,500. Something is wrong there. If the IAC was closed, you close the butterflys, your engine should get to the point of stalling. Vacuum leak perharps? IAC pintle that is blocked by carbon and not seating? Etc.
