84 z28 idle question

merry christmas all.... i have an 84 Z28 LG4 and here is what it does. after idling in drive for 2 min or so it will throw a code 45 which i know means rich. after driving and coming to a stop the rpms will also stumble a little. long story short i got the car for 800 bucks cause it was blowing black smoke and the owner didnt have a clue. i have adjusted the carb and no more smoke. just wondering could it be bad o2 or bad cat.....
thanks for any suggestions

yep, cat....
you could chop that and bolt in a "test pipe" temporarily, see if it fixes it...

if that doesn't help, you may need to adjust the mixture solenoid, or TPS as well.
