shifting question...
okay quick story/question...
'bout a month and a half ago, the ignition lock on my car broke and I didn't have time to fix it, so i got another car and let it sit for that time.
a week ago I finally got around to changing the lock, and the battery was dead, so I sprung for an optima(I've gone through 4 crappy batteries w/ this car) and got it running.
all that is fairly unrelated to the question, I'm just filling you in on any/all recent changes that were made.
anyway, the thing is, since I got the car going again, it seems to be much livelier than it used to be...it's still slow, by all means, but now she downshifts wildly into insane rpm's all the time, I'll be rolling from a stop, floor it, and the car will go up to 40, I'll let off and floor it again and she'll downshift and rev up to 5k-55k rpm, accellerate for a bit, upshift to 4k rpm(?) and sit there, and I'll be going 50mph at 1/2 throttle.
a few times, she downshifted and revved as high as 6500 rpm!!! this engine is STOCK, btw...
for most cars, this isn't anything crazy, but I've owned this car for over two years now, and try as I might, I'd never gotten her past 5200 rpms, and that was in neutral trying to blow out some carbon...
what's going on?
80% of my 2 hour drive today was above the 3k rpm line, and my foot wasn't to the floor the WHOLE time...
I also feel it's necessary to mention that until it died the first time, i'd been babying her because she was my only car, and when I finally took her for a drive again today, I basically went nuts for 2 hours because I have a second reliable car and frankly don't give a damn if I blow the engine.
so, any ideas? did something break? most of the time the car was above 4500 rpm's, I had no power, but the transmission was flowing smoothly, shifting easily, it's the smoothest the car's ever run, except with no added power.
could I be having transmission problems...not engaging perhaps?
anyway, lemme know if I have anything to worry about please, thanks.
