coil fires plugs don't

I just got a 89 rs(2.8 automatic) that I need to get running.I'm not sure of the history but it cranks and won't start.I have spark at the coil wire but not at the plugs. It has a new cap, rotor, plugs and wires. The ICM and pickup coil tested good, distributer was replaced with a better used one.Can I test the 4pin connector at the ICM if so how.Any help to get this started is greatly appreciated.

im not familiar with the ignition of your 2.8, but if it's anything like an HEI, it sounds like you have a blown module. it'll be inside the distributor (if there is one), mounted under the rotor, on the base.

You SURE the plug isnt firing? Cause if the coil fires...the only thing conducting energy between the coil and the plug, are the wires and cap/rotor. So, something in that chain has to be broken. If the module were fried, you'd have no spark at the coil.

just a shot in the dark here... maybe the timing is so far off the coil is firing when the distributor is completely in the wron position?

I tried a different ignition module,cap/rotor/wires and played with the timing.Still spark on the coil wire but not plugs.I'm not sure how to verify spark on the cap and rotor.Could the Engine Control Module cause this? Will the engine crank if the neutral start switch is bad?

no the engine will not turn if the neutal switch is bad. i actually use that as a safety switch (auto to manual swap). it'd be pretty hard to break one of those anyhow, its just a positional metal contact on the shifter.

Alright,I rechecked my spark at coil wire. The spark is blue with white edges.I tested coil as per Chiltons repair manual, tested ok.But I'm beginning to think it is a week coil.I'll try a new one when I get a chance. Thanks for the input.
