Idle Speed?

I need to know what the idle speed sould be set at for a 83 camaro 305, preformer carb and intake, stock cam ( i guess) , with 700r4. I was told by one person the it should be 2250 rpms and another that told me 1000 rpm which is right.

2250 is wayyyy too high. You should be able to get the rpms at idle close to 750 - you may need to adjust timing some - my carbed 350 sits on 750 with no problems, and runs good throughout.
